  • Victims Assistance

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops “Charter for the Protection of Children and Safe Environment” requires a prominent and permanent listing for contacting a victim assistance coordinator in every Catholic diocese, parish and institution across the nation. To report sexual abuse by clergy, parish personnel or volunteers in the Eparchy of Newton, please call the Victim Assistance Coordinator at 1-800-479-5910.

    Our Church History

In 1916, the great immigration of Syrians from Aleppo to Paterson took place.

Gradually acculturating to American life, these immigrants took care of their families’ basic needs without benefit of welfare. They learned the language, educated their children, experienced the highs and lows of world-wide economic and political conditions, and with great pride maintained their strong family ties and religious traditions.

    Online Giving

Parishioners now have the option of making their contributions electronically.

Online giving does not replace our envelopes; it is simply an additional option for the parish.  Click on the first link below for additional information about online giving and setting up an account. Click on the second link below to sign-up.

    Find Answers to Your Questions
    • How can I watch the Divine Liturgy online?

We are happy to offer live streaming for any parishioner who is unable to join us in person. We currently stream our services via our YouTube channel, which can be found here. You do not need an account to watch along with us. Previously streamed liturgies are also available to be rewatched at any time.

    • Am I able to give online?

Yes, parishioners of our church can now give contribute electronically! When you click on the "Online Giving" tab, you will be directed to our convenient pay portal through "Our Sunday Visitor", the same company that handles our church giving envelopes. After you set up an account, you have the option to set up payment methods from any bank or credit card accounts that you choose. Due to transaction costs, contributions from bank accounts are highly encouraged.

This online giving method allows you to choose the specific fund you would like to contribute a gift towards. It also allows you to choose whether your gift is a single contribution, or recurring (at a frequency chosen by you). Don't worry, all of your personal and giving information will continue to be kept strictly confidential!

NOTE: This method does not replace our traditional envelopes- it is just an additional option that is available to the parish.

    • I would like to request prayer. Am I able to do so?

Yes! We are here to pray over your specific need. When you click on the "Request Prayer" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the page, you will be directed to our convenient prayer request submission form. This form allows you to specify whether you would like to have your request remain private, or for your name to be made known so that more in the church may pray for you. You are also able to specify whether you would like a response to your request, whether by phone or email.

    • Can I volunteer for Night to Shine?

Absolutely! The Night to Shine prom is always in need of volunteers to help make the night run smoothly and to keep it enjoyable for all of our King and Queen attendees. While the 2021 Night to Shine has already passed, our church still has plenty of volunteer opportunities in a variety of programs before next year's prom. If you would like more information about where you can serve, feel free to contact or call us today!

    • What is the best way to contact St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church?

We are here for you. If you would like to send us a message directly, feel free to use the contact form found on the "Contact Us" tab. This form sends a message directly to the church office, which will get back to you as soon as possible! If you would prefer to email the office outside of this form, send your message to office@saintannmelkite.org. If you would prefer to give us a call, our rectory is available by phone at (973) 785-4144. Our church hall is available at (973) 785-9898. Please send any faxes to (973) 890-9599.

    • What is a Melkite?

Melkite (or sometimes Melchite) is a sect of Christianity decending from the Christians of Egypt and Syria. The Melkite community was primarily made up of Greek colonists and Arabicized Egyptian and Syrian inhabitants. They followed Michael Cerularius, the patriarch of Constantinople, into schism with Rome in 1054, and they adopted the Byzantine rite. The Melkite church may even have been around at the time of the Apostles, meaning the Melkites could have been be the first ever Christian community!
